Exotic Animal Care
Nad Al Sheba Veterinary hospital was first established in 2004 as a hospital for falcons and exotic pet animals. We run a first opinion and referral service for owners of falcons, parrots, reptiles, amphibians, fish and small furries (rabbits, hamsters). In fact we are able to deal with most unusual species either on site or through a home visit. For regular inspections of larger collections please contact the clinic.
The hospital houses state of the art equipment with a specialised laboratory guaranteeing same day results on most tests offered. This rapid turn around time can be critical to the survival of exotic patients. Our haematologists are specially trained to work with avian and reptilian blood samples, a skill not widely available in the UAE where laboratory machines are often used producing unreliable results.
Our clinical staff have many years experience in the care of exotic animal species and clinics will be taken by Dr Chris Lloyd or Guilio Russo or Struan Henderson. For tips on the care of some of the more common species of bird and reptile kept in the UAE please see the ‘care sheet’ section.
At the Nad Al Sheba Veterinary hospital we believe in preventing disease and recommend that every animal have regular health checks. Birds in particular are masters at masking symptoms of disease and often by the time they appear unwell they may be too sick to treat successfully. To complement the advice you receive at your regular check up we also produce printed care advice for a wide range of species and stock the very best in avian / exotic animal diets and supplements as well as reptile food and a comprehensive range of husbandry accessories.
